Providing a rousing curtain-opener to the Festival's music programme, this remarkable work is paired with another Beethoven masterpiece, his sprightly First Symphony.

Tuesday 18th May - NNF10 - Academy of Ancient MusicPavlo Beznosiuk - director and violin, Elin Manahan Thomas - soprano
While Vivaldi's depictions of the four seasons are among the best-known works of the baroque period, less familiar are the Italian sonnets he wrote to introduce the concertos. Originally read before each concerto was performed, the sonnets were intended to 'explain the music more easily'. Renowned worldwide for its energised, passionate performances of baroque music, the Academy of Ancient Music is joined by radiant soprano Elin Manahan Thomas to recreate this harmonious celebration of nature.
